Competition Prep Program
Our premier skating lesson program, Competition Prep Skaters are those who are committed to taking their skill acquisition to the next level! Comp Prep Skaters will have more ice time, goal oriented practice time, one weekly group lesson, access to private lessons, and the eligibility to compete and test through US Figure Skating if desired! Must be Basic Skills level 3 or higher.
Our Competition Prep program is built on a culture of personal improvement rather than the group lesson environment of Learn to Skate lessons. It is for skaters who are ready to improve at their own pace with a private coach. These lessons will be specific to certain skills in Figure Skating: such as dances, freestyle skills, skating skills (previously called moves in the field), and choreography for solo programs set to music that are used in ice shows or competition and testing. Please discuss with your coach what kind of lesson you desire.
Eligibility
Skaters who have passed at least Basic Level 3 or higher, at this or another club. Skaters must have a desire to learn!
Season
Mid-September through March. Half and Full Season Sessions are available.
Optional Competition and Testing dates are found and updated here.
Private Lessons
This program relies heavily on private instruction, which will be an extra charge payable directly to your coaches. Details can be found on our coaches pages.
USFS membership fee
For skaters who have passed Basic 6 and above it is $180/skater for the year. Second skater in the same family pays $90, etc.
For skaters in Snowplow Sam thru Basic 6, it is included in your membership.
Junior Coaching
As an important part of their training, all skaters in this program are encouraged to become Junior Coaches. They will be assigned an appropriate position, which may be supervising, coaching a group, or even helping a single little skater who needs one on one assistance.
2 rinks
Lessons and practice ice will be held at the Raymond Family Community Center and the Agri-Sports Complex, both in Williston, ND
equipment
Skaters will need to come with their own good quality skates and skate guards.
Stretchy and comfortable, but snug, clothes are preferable to allow for movement and safety on ice. Gloves, hats, protective headwear, crash pads for hips and knees, and layers are also advised. Practice skirts & dresses are always fun!
If you have any questions about proper equipment, please contact us.
Competition
Competing offers a chance to show off skating skills, receive constructive feedback, and develop valuable life skills like resilience and competitive spirit, both on and off the ice. Plus, it's fun!
Competing is not required to enroll in this program.
Testing
Testing with U.S. Figure Skating (USFS) is a way to assess and demonstrate skating skills, and it's the foundation for competitive and recreational skating. It helps skaters achieve specific goals, track progress, and qualify for competitions.
Testing is not required to enroll in this program.
Extra Costs
- All private lesson fees will be separate from the club and payable directly to your coach.
- Periodic skate sharpening.
- We have club merch available!
Competition & Testing Expenses
- If your skater chooses to test or compete there will be additional fees depending on the venue and host club.
- Extra expenses also appear in the form of competition dresses, costumes, music and music editing, each test taken, travel expenses, etc.
