Snowplow Sam
This Learn to Skate program contains 4 levels for young skaters who have never been on the ice. The goal of WFSC is to provide participants with a positive and fun experience where students progress at their own rate and advance after skill mastery is demonstrated. Snowplow Sam lessons are taught by our junior coaches.
Ages
Snowplow Sam is our only age restricted program. Skaters must be ages 4, 5, or 6 at the time of lessons. **3 year olds now being accepted on a trial basis!
When
Sessions are available in 6 week sessions. Each week contains 2 half hour lessons and 2 hours of practice ice over 3 different days each week.
Equipment
Skates are necessary and helmets are strongly suggesed. Click HERE for more information about helmets and other protective gear for figure skating, and some recommended helmets.
Snowpants, kneepads, waterproof gloves, warm hats, and warm comfortable layers are encouraged. It's easier to learn when you're not freezing!
Please contact us with questions about equipment.
locations
Lessons and practice ice will be held at the Agri-Sports Complex at the UMFV Fairgrounds
Expectations
It usually takes 2 or 3 weeks for the beginning skaters to become comfortable with having "strange feeling skates" on "slippery ice". It's normal to have some tears! The adjustment usually happens quicker if the parents watch from a slight distance.
Of course, parents know their little ones best. Please use your own judgement.
Practices
Snowplow Sam skaters receive two 30 minutes lessons each week and two 30 minute supervised practice sessions on the same days. The LTS skate days for the 2025-2026 season are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:45am to 12:45pm. Exact lesson time will be determined after the first lesson.
Practice ice is also available on Fridays from 1-2pm
Extra Costs
- Skates will need to be resharpened periodically, but not as often as bigger more experienced skaters. This is minimal.
- We have Merch!
